Lightning Release (雷遁, Raiton) is one of the five basic elemental nature transformation techniques. It allows the user to create lightning by increasing the vibrations of their chakra. Lightning Release techniques are generally used to deal piercing damage; they can also paralyse the target, leaving them open to a finishing strike. Like Wind Release, lightning can be used through chakra flow to enhance bladed weapons - when the infused weapon hits the target, it can cause paralysis or numbness. It does not move as quickly as true lightning, however, and Lightning Release is considered one of the most difficult elements to use effectively thanks to the amount of control needed. An affinity to Lightning Release appears to be common in shinobi of Kumogakure, the Land of Lightning's hidden village.
